NSA Phone Spying Program Ruled 'Illegal' by Court

After Edward Snowden exposed the phone spying program, there was a public outcry about them gathering mass data on millions of phone records.

Although mass data was collected, it was only data about which number was called, and the actual time. Apparently, it did not include the phone conversation.

Famously revealed, the German Chancellor 'Angela Merkal' was amongst some of the more better known individuals to be spied on. This hit the headlines and caused quite a stir. Germany's response was they didn't have "clear justification" for this activity.

Congress is now expected to respond to this and reports are saying there will be a vote on it next week. If the house vote came out in favor to scrap the spy program, this would end it.

The spy program is said to break section 215 of the USA Patriot Act. This is actually set to run out next month (June). The Patriot Act was established after the 9/11 attacks, to give wide resources to monitor terrorism.

Many senators want to keep the spy program and want to keep it by applying for an extension from June onwards.

With revelations revealed like this, the general public feeling is that big brother is watching (and listening to us). Not only has paranoia come from this. It has highlighted cases of the public spying and tracking another persons phone.

With modern smartphones, technology has turned against us. This leaves it open for exploits. New apps have been developed names 'spy phone apps' which lets you spy on another person 'NSA Style'.

Location, text messages, phone records and photos are amongst many of the features of spy phone apps. They usually work on all new smart phones too.

Although some might find such apps and surveillance programs controversial, there are also many positives too. Some say they have great security benefits in many ways.
